The historical places of Santo Stefano di Sessanio, Rocca Calascio and Campo Imperatore will host this long weekend in Abruzzo. We visit ancient villages, medieval fortresses, large lawns and high-altitude lakes. We will meet ruins of monasteries and convents, ancient testimonies of a past linked to the presence of Benedictine and Cistercian monks on the mountains of Abruzzo. We continue on high altitude, admiring in the basin below the lake Passaneta (1560 mt) and the nearby big fold. DAY 3: Rocca Calascio  (6 km, elevation gain 300mt)

Our hiking holiday resumes with a ring through the villages of Calascio and Rocca Calascio. We walk to Rocca Calascio, reaching the highest peak of the Rock, with its haunting beauty. We visit the Fortress and the nearby church of Santa Maria della Pieta, a small temple built between the XVI and XVII century on the site where, according to legend, the local population got the better of a gang of robbers. The village and its castle have been the setting places of the film "Ladyhawke" (with Roger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer) and "The Name of the Rose" (with Sean Connery), "The Journey of the Bride" (directed by Sergio Rubini) and "The horizon of the events" (with Valerio Mastandrea). The village also appears in the film "The American" (with George Clooney). Stop for lunch at the Lodge. Later we reach Santo Stefano di Sessanio, through a single track of a unique beauty. We get down from the mountains above into the village. After a coffee break, we say goodbye and head back home.
